Rankings can hold while clicks fall. AI answers synthesize your brand from the whole web — so visibility is an alignment problem, not a plugin install.
At WordCamp 2026, Emma Young described a pattern Hostinger knew well: strong rankings, millions of visits, SEO working — then AI Overviews arrived. Clicks dropped while positions held. Google was answering the question before anyone reached the page.
AI had started telling our story without us even in the room — based on whatever it could find across the web. Sometimes wrong, sometimes vague, sometimes confident about things we never said.Emma Young, WordCamp 2026
That is the shift Archiom clients feel too — not only on WordPress marketing sites, but on product docs, agency portfolios, and SaaS landing pages. AI search is not a plugin problem. It is a company alignment problem.
There is hype that treats AI answers like oracle output. In practice, most major products retrieve from a search index, pull relevant pages, then synthesize an answer. For many engines, that index is Google's.
How most AI search answers are built
Lily Ray's case study — cited in the talk — showed sites losing organic rankings saw AI citations drop on the same timeline. No side door exists: if Google does not trust or index you, AI visibility rarely rescues you.
For twenty years, teams optimized for a ladder: one platform, one algorithm, climb high enough and traffic follows. Customers never lived on a ladder — they live on a map.
Ladder vs map
Old model
New model
YouTube for exploration, Reddit for unfiltered opinions, social for proof, AI chat for synthesis, Google for high-intent pricing queries — often in that order. If you only measure step five, you miss the four conversations that shaped the decision.

Young's 'bad cocktail' metaphor: landing pages, affiliates, Reddit threads, and YouTube each tell a slightly different story. AI shakes them together and hands prospects 'it depends on your situation.'
If you use the same tools and prompts as every competitor, you'll be coherent — and invisible. The brands winning have ingredients nobody else has: real customer data, genuine opinions, visible human fingerprints.Emma Young, WordCamp 2026
The opposite is the 'house cocktail' — one answer everyone agrees is yours. That requires one core truth expressed differently per platform, not more volume on one channel.
Hostinger shifted from siloed channel KPIs to shared intent: one question ('how do I start a website?') expressed as a citable article, a YouTube walkthrough, an authentic community thread, and consistent brand language.
A Foundation/AirOps study analyzed 57 million citations. Roughly 85% came from outside the brand's own domain — press, partners, community, social. SEO teams touching the website are optimizing maybe 15% of where AI visibility is built.
Where AI citations are built
At Archiom, that split maps cleanly to client work: we ship fast, crawlable, well-structured sites — but we cannot PR your way into Reddit or write your CEO's LinkedIn voice. Whole-company visibility needs whole-company ownership.
This pillar introduces the problem. The cluster posts go deep on each lever:
