This Deprecation Is Real, Not Hypothetical

Shopify is retiring checkout.liquid, Additional Scripts, and Shopify Scripts. Customizations built on any of them don't degrade gracefully — they stop working outright once the deprecation takes effect. A store that hasn't audited what it's running on these is planning a migration blind.

What the Audit Actually Covers

Legacy checkout.liquid customizations — anything custom built directly into the old checkout template.
Additional Scripts — tracking pixels, custom validation, or third-party code injected via this legacy mechanism.
Theme-injected scripts — customizations added through the theme rather than Shopify's supported extension points.

✅Why this is worth doing before, not after Waiting until the deprecation deadline turns a planned migration into an emergency one. Finding every affected script now, with time to plan the replacement, is a fundamentally different (and cheaper) project than fixing a broken checkout in production.

What Happens After the Audit

Each identified customization gets a migration path — usually to Shopify's supported Checkout Extensibility framework — mapped and prioritized by what actually breaks the checkout flow versus what's cosmetic.
