"Cross-platform is slower and feels less native" was true five years ago. Here's what's actually still a real tradeoff in 2026, and what isn't anymore.
"Cross-platform is slower and feels less native" was a fair criticism five years ago. Kotlin Multiplatform and Jetpack Compose Multiplatform share business logic across iOS and Android while still rendering genuinely native UI on each platform — the visual and performance gap that used to justify fully separate codebases has mostly closed.
Shared business logic means one bug fix instead of two, one test suite instead of two, one feature implementation instead of two parallel ones. That advantage doesn't show up much at launch — it compounds steadily over the life of the app, in every release after the first.
